¿Cómo afecta la varianza en el poker?

Ya sabemos que el poker no es un juego de azar, y que los jugadores que toman mejores decisiones son capaces de ganar dinero. Pero esto no significa que los jugadores buenos ganen todas las manos ni que una mano con ventaja gane el 100% de las veces. Cuando jugamos al poker, vamos a tener que conformarnos con ser los "favoritos", es decir, tener la jugada que más veces ganará a la larga. Esto nos asegura que, si jugamos una cantidad de manos muy grande, seremos ganadores reales.

Sin embargo, en una muestra pequeña de manos, puede suceder que las jugadas menos probables nos ganen.

Los buenos jugadores de poker deben preocuparse por poner su dinero en el bote en las situaciones que son favoritos para ganar la mano. Aún así, nadie les garantiza lo que vaya a suceder en esa jugada concreta. Lo que ellos tratan de hacer es ponerse, tan a menudo como les sea posible, en situaciones donde son favoritos. La varianza no tiene memoria

Los sucesos en el poker son totalmente independientes. Esto es algo que debes grabarte a fuego.

Tiras 5 monedas al aire y salen 5 caras. Puede parecer que es más probable que en la 6ª salga cruz, ¡pero no es así! Sigue habiendo un 50% de probabilidades.

En el poker ocurre lo mismo. Posterior un día afortunado o desafortunado, en la siguiente sesión nos encontramos en la misma situación que si no hubiésemos jugado el día anterior.
