How Far Will You Visit Gamble?

When I USED TO BE a kid, I used to ride my bike about five miles to get to slightly variety store in Pleasant Hill, California to shop for baseball cards. It was the one place that carried them in my neck of the woods, however the weather in Northern California is excellent and the ride was fun. Sometimes a pal rode with me and while we never had good enough money for one or two packs of cards, we didn't care. Sometimes we got shut out and so they had no cards left. It was a gamble, but we didn't mind.

Sometimes we bought a pack and it had cards we already had! Bummer. A losing gamble, however it was still definitely worth the ride. How far did you walk or ride to shop for candy, a soda, or some baseball cards whilst you were a child? Was it definitely worth the trek? Was it definitely worth the gamble? I lived in Japan for 2 years and not saw a baseball card, so when the family got back to California I remember borrowing my uncle's bike and riding seven or eight miles to a 7-Eleven (there's that craps number, hmmm) and because they'd no baseball cards I PURCHASED a Slurpee with a baseball player on it. Two days later I did it again. Still well worth the trip.

Not everyone gambles for a similar reason, however the high and excitement will likely be worth a little a drive. Now I WOULD NOT drive all of the way from Seattle to take a look at the casinos of Alaska, because it's simply too far. Heck, it's almost 1,000 miles from Anchorage to Sitka simply to play bingo, but I digress.

I have traveled 550 miles by car for a single evening of gambling. Is that crazy? How far would you visit gamble? How far do you travel frequently? I'm just saying...............it may well be a protracted way, and it's probably worth it, right?
